💿 Meaning

All the things fans do for what they love: streaming songs, collecting albums and merch, going to concerts and joining online fan communities. Think “fangirling” or “fanboying” as a hobby.

Origin

덕 (deok, from 덕후, superfan) + 질 (jil), a suffix for a repeated action, as in 바느질 (sewing). The Korea Creative Content Agency has even studied 덕질 for what it means to the K-content industry.

✍️ Examples

  1. 요즘 덕질하는 재미로 살아.
    Yojeum deokjil-haneun jaemi-ro sara.
These days, fangirling is what keeps me going.

  2. 덕질에 돈을 너무 많이 썼어.
    Deokjil-e doneul neomu mani sseosseo.
I spent way too much money on fandom stuff.

💡 Usage tip
