A “successful fan.” It’s used for someone who got to meet or talk with their idol, or whose fandom turned into a career, like becoming an idol or working with the group.

Origin

Short for 성공한 덕후 (seonggonghan deokhu): 성공한 (“successful”) + 덕후 (“superfan”).

  1. 팬사인회에서 이름 불렸어. 나 성덕이야!
    Paen-saininhoe-eseo ireum bullyeosseo. Na seongdeok-iya!
    They called my name at the fan signing. I’m a successful fan!

  2. 좋아하던 가수랑 같이 일하다니, 진짜 성덕이네.
    Joahadeon gasu-rang gachi ilhadani, jinjja seongdeok-ine.
    You get to work with the singer you loved? A true successful fan.

💡 Usage tip

It’s a warm compliment. Fans also say it about idols who once fanned over a senior artist and later got to perform with them.
